Meet the Inaugural European Publisher of the Year: BBC Studios

The Lovie Awards is thrilled to announce that our esteemed Judging Academy recognises BBC Studios as the Inaugural European Publisher of the Year.

We’re so excited to introduce the recipient of the Inaugural Lovie European Publisher of the Year Award, BBC Studios!

Selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), the European Publisher of the Year Award recognises BBC Studios for crafting engaging and impactful digital content across the European Internet.

The BBC Studios team saw the most success at the 13th Annual Lovie Awards across all publishing work entered in all our categories. They closed the competition with 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 3 Bronze Lovie Awards and 4 People’s Lovie Awards.

An expert in unravelling challenging and intricate stories, BBC Studios is the world’s largest and oldest independent public service broadcaster. Across television, radio and digital, their innovative team of storytellers create dynamic content to inspire, educate and entertain millions worldwide.

Notable winning projects include “Can artificial intelligence ever be sentient,” a crucial exploration of consciousness and AI through a transcript of a conversation with a leading deep-learning AI model. The BBC Earth Podcast steps into the world of wildlife to share brilliant stories from the natural world, narrated by world-leading experts and naturalists.

The social media series Planet Fix explores unique and advanced solutions to climate change in each episode—the one on the kind of maise plant that can make its own nitrogen gaining over 3.1 million views on YouTube. BBC Studios’ social presence is also known for short clips of the animated kids show Bluey that routinely go viral among young viewers across TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

BBC Studios excels at creating crucial programs with deep knowledge across a range of fields to educate and inform viewers. To mobilise the next generation of climate activists, BBC Earth partnered with Minecraft Education to build five worlds in the videogame inspired by Frozen Planet II. The resource was shared with schools across 119 countries in 29 languages, complete with lesson plans for teachers.

The 2023 Lovie Award Winners are announced! It’s been a record-breaking season, with over 1,200 entries from over 30 countries across Europe, and 70,000 votes from more than 30,000 fans in the People’s Lovie Awards—the 13th Annual Lovie Awards is the biggest in our history.
