13 October 2021: The Lovie Awards, presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS), today announced the finalists for the 11th Annual awards. Sister of the international Webby Awards, The Lovie Awards is the premiere honour celebrating the best of the European Internet community. Finalists include Netflix’s DARK, Night Sky, Unilever, Luminary, Samsung, British singer dodie, Coca-Cola, BT, Van Gogh Museum, GANNI, Reporters Without Borders, Yousician, and Open Loop, as well as some of Europe’s biggest online publishers such as Financial Times, The Danish Broadcasting Corporation, Deutsche Welle, The Telegraph, and BuzzFeed UK.

Following the judging selection process, voting is now open for the People’s Lovie Awards through 21 October at vote.lovieawards.com. Based on a popular vote of category finalists, the People’s Lovie Awards gives the public an opportunity to select its favourite projects to win a Lovie Award alongside those winners chosen by the Academy.

Lovie Award Finalists are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS). Members include musician Imogen Heap, actor and writer Stephen Fry, “Father of Wi-Fi” Vic Hayes, Vice President, LEGO Anna Rafferty, Actor & Producer Ashley Walters, Host of The Happy Place Podcast Fearne Cotton, Creator, Have You Heard George’s Podcast? George The Poet (George Mpanga), Broccoli Content CEO Renay Richardson, Founder of WITCiH Bishi Bhattacharya, Strategy Director, AKQA Miriam Plon Sauer, and Co-Founder, TomTom and Codam College Corinne Vigreux, among others.

“Since launching the Lovie Awards eleven years ago we’ve been exposed to so many imaginative and accomplished projects from across Europe,” said Nicolas Roope, IADAS Jury Chairman of The Lovie Awards. Continuing, “We’re honoured to celebrate so many positive, forward-thinking and innovative businesses, initiatives, campaigns and crafts on the internet that help improve the world we live in, especially in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.”

This year, The Lovie Awards introduced a brand new suite for Virtual & Remote honours, and the finalists show powerful mastery of these exploding technologies, such as Global Citizen’s Global Goal: Unite for our Future, Exploratorium 2021 by Prodigioso Volcan, Havas Spain’s Alonzo Virtual Music Tour on GTA, made for PUMA, and Virtual Festival Space – Kollektiv Turmstrasse by Demodern GmbH.

Key cultural and societal issues are prominently reflected across this year’s finalists, particularly in dedicated honours for Diversity & Inclusion. Seasoned Sessions by Buzzfeed UK, for example, highlights resources and information in the fight against racism, It’s a Sin (4creative), an innovative campaign for the show’s launch focusing on the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, Stormzy’s ‘Superheroes’ (The Orchard), an animated music video made for the Rangers Charity Foundation to inspire young students, and Love Jihad (TRT World), which draws attention to the targeting of interfaith marriages in parts of India.

This year’s Finalists also represent the growing medium of Podcasts across the region. They include Luminary’s Under the Skin with Russell Brand as well as his Above the Noise podcast, examining politics, spirituality, and meditation, Bad People from BBC Sounds, FT News Briefing, Some Families by StoryHunter, and Bed of Lies from The Telegraph, among others.

For the sixth consecutive year, The Lovie Agency of the Year Award will be bestowed upon the European agency that performs best across all award categories. Leading the group of contenders is Media.Monks B.V. (Hilversum), Dept Agency (Amsterdam), followed by denwerk GmbH (Cologne), Plan.Net Gruppe fur digitale Kommunikation GmbH & Co.
