This year’s Lovie Special Achievement Award honourees will join previous winners Stephen Fry, Sigur Ròs, Sophie Wilson, JR, Vic Hayes (the Dutch ‘Father of WiFi’), Jamie Oliver, Björk and Dan Howell (danisnotonfire). They are:

Lovie Special Achievement:

Tom Fletcher – During his time as British Ambassador to Lebanon, Fletcher was astonishingly active on social media, posting almost 10,000 Tweets, with a clear, refreshing and unabashed voice. His commitment to digital diplomacy and core belief of the power of the Internet to foster democracy and important civic conversation has paved the way for future diplomats and citizens, notably in his viral farewell blog post.

Lovie Lifetime Achievement:

Louis Pouzin – As the creator of the computer network known as CYCLADES, which greatly influenced the future development of TCP/IP protocol, Pouzin has defined one of the key cornerstones of the Internet’s design and it is one that still holds today.

Lovie Be Greater with Data Award:

The European Space Agency – With it’s unprecedented and utterly historic Rosetta Mission, the European Space Agency have not only demonstrated the highest level of using data for the greater good, but they have now laid a foundation — with the tools, technology, and intergalactic communications innovations — that will power future, and brand-new, data to be collected about our world’s most vast, and most-unknown frontier: outer space.

The Lovie Emerging Entrepreneur Award:

Lily Cole ( – With her brilliant use and focused understanding of social media, and by harnessing the power that an active online presence can have for fans from around the world, Lily’s work creating, launching, and growing demonstrates her vision and commitment to using the Internet for the greater good.

The Lovie Internet Video Person of the Year:

David Sandberg (Kung Fury) – Sandberg embraced the very DNA of the web itself by crowdsourcing the funding for his film “Kung Fury” via Kickstarter (surpassing his goal), and then premiering the project on YouTube, where it became a viral sensation almost immediately. His epic 80s-style kung-fu movie demonstrates that creating original content—however wild the subject matter—defines a cornerstone of the democratic web: openness. Sandberg proves that anyone with passion and drive can realise their work for an engaged audience world wide.
