21 October 2020: The Lovie Awards, presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS), today announced the finalists for the 10th Annual awards. Sister of the international Webby Awards, The Lovie Awards is the premiere honour celebrating the best of the European Internet community. Finalists include Cinétévé Experience, Merge Gardens, Carousel Radio, Nivea, Bikespector, as well as some of Europe’s biggest online publishers including The Economist, Conde Nast International, Al Jazeera, BuzzFeed UK and Dagbladet.

Following the judging selection process, voting is now open for the People’s Lovie Awards through 29 October at vote.lovieawards.com. Based on a popular vote of category finalists, the People’s Lovie Awards gives the public an opportunity to select its favourite projects to win a Lovie Award alongside those winners chosen by the Academy.

Lovie Award Finalists are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS). Members include musician Imogen Heap, actor and writer Stephen Fry, “Father of Wi-Fi” Vic Hayes, Vice President and Chief AI Scientist, Facebook Yann LeCun, Vice President, LEGO Anna Rafferty, Actor & Producer Ashley Walters, Host of The Happy Place Podcast Fearne Cotton, Creator, Have You Heard George’s Podcast? George The Poet (George Mpanga), Executive Creative Director, Wieden + Kennedy London Iain Tait, Strategy Director, AKQA Miriam Plon Sauer, and Co-Founder, TomTom and Codam College Corinne Vigreux, among others.

“Since launching the Lovie Awards ten years ago we’ve been exposed to so many imaginative and accomplished projects from across Europe,” said Nicolas Roope, IADAS Jury Chairman of The Lovie Awards. Continuing; “We’re honoured to celebrate so many positive, forward-thinking and innovative businesses, initiatives, campaigns and crafts on the internet that help improve the world we live in, especially in response to the global Covid-19 pandemic.”

This year, The Lovie Awards introduced a brand new suite for Podcast honours, and the finalists show powerful mastery of this growing medium, such as Spotify’s Äkta hela vägen (translation: Genuine All The Way), an audiobook-as-podcast experience about footballer Martin Mutumba, About Race with Reni Eddo-Lodge, Babbage from Economist Radio, Al Jazeera Investigates, and The Guardian’s Today in Focus, hosted by Anushka Asthana.

Key cultural and societal issues are prominently reflected across this year’s finalists, particularly in new, dedicated honours for Diversity & Inclusion. “Seasonedbf” by Buzzfeed UK, for example, highlights resources and information in the fight against racism, “WeTransfer x Riz Ahmed – The Long Goodbye” (WeTransfer) is a film exploring issues around the immigrant identity, and Domino’s Diversity Hunger (Good Rebels), which celebrates LGBTQ+ equality.

This year’s Finalists also demonstrate the power of the Internet to keep people connected during the Covid-19 pandemic. From Public Service & Activism works spreading awareness about the virus’ impact such as “NHS Everyday Heroes” (Evening Standard), to projects reinventing the virtual experience of arts and culture like “Rijksmuseum Masterpieces Up Close” (Q42), and “One World: Together at Home” (Global Citizen), to new technologies around mental health such as “Enso – Slack’s first mindfulness buddy” (denkwerk), and “The Sound of Colleagues” (Familjen STHLM), among others.

In its fifth consecutive year, The Lovie Agency of the Year Award will be bestowed upon the European agency that performs best across all award categories. Leading the group of contenders is Dept (Amsterdam), followed by Demodern GmbH (Cologne), Media Monks (HIlversum), Scholz & Friends Berlin GmbH, Hjaltelin Stahl (Copenhagen), Work & Co. (Brooklyn, NY USA), and Cheil Germany GmbH (Schwalbach am Taunus).

The 10th Annual Lovie Awards saw nearly 1,000 entries from over 30 countries submitted in seven native languages. Winners will be announced 19 November 2020 in a special virtual celebration.
