Top 10 Declarations of Lovie

All Lovie Winners deliver a hallmark Declaration of Lovie speech to commemorate their win, which becomes a permanent piece of European web history. The only rule: a Declaration of Lovie must include the word “love.”

When such legends as French artist JR, Vic Hayes (Dutch “Father of Wi-Fi”), Germany’s Prof. Heinz Gerhäuser (creator of the MP3 file format), Jamie Oliver, and Sophie Wilson (inventor of the ARM Microprocessor), have graced our stage, choosing the Top 10 Declarations of Lovie feels nearly impossible.

But, we love a challenge. So without further ado, here they are:

  • Top 10 Declarations of Lovie

Björk

Björk won the very first Lovie Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011, in recognition of not only a career pushing creative and technological boundaries, but for embracing and utilising the very DNA of the web itself to create such a unique synergy between music and the internet.

While perhaps that sounds wordy, her Declaration of Lovie speech was not.

Stephen Fry

Stephen Fry won The Lovie Person of the Year Award in 2012, in recognition of his innovative, engaged approach to the web which delivers real-time and personal content to his rabid fan base, on a daily basis.

His Declaration of Lovie speech was the stuff of legends. “The European contribution to the technological world has been enormous.”

Danisnotonfire

Dan Howell accepted the first-ever Lovie Internet Video Person of the Year in 2014, in recognition of his prowess as a YouTube video star. What’s more, Howell constantly uses his online fame to give back to the community – from Stickaid, a live fundraiser to benefit Unicef, to his blogs and appearances on the online show Becoming YouTube.

Sigur Ròs

Sigur Ròs won The Lovie Artist of the Year Award in 2014, in recognition of their staggering success online in keeping fans engaged, and bringing them exclusive access to everything in the Sigur Ros world (see #Stormur, Instagram, and their Reddit Q+A).

LSO Play

Singing a Declaration of Lovie speech is a wonderful artist choice. So is bringing the symphony experience to audiences everywhere via the internet.

Thumbs up to LSO Play, who won Silver for Best User Experience at The 4th Annual Lovie Awards in 2014.

Grouek

We just love a bi-lingual Declaration of Lovie speech.

Grouek and CLM BBDO’s incredible sortieenmer.com won Lovie Gold in 2014 for Best HTML 5.*

Tam Tam

Dutch agency Tam Tam won lots of Lovies in 2014: a Silver in Best Design, a Bronze in Best Practices, and The People’s Lovie Award in both categories! Safe to say their redesign of The Dutch National Opera & Ballet website was loved by all.

So Far So Good

The So Far So Good team came from France to celebrate and deliver their Declaration of Lovie for Incredibox, their project that won Bronze in Weird/Experimental in 2012. What would the internet be without the beautiful, weird stuff?

Particle Productions

We definitively say this is, so far, the first and only Declaration of Lovie wherein the statuette itself was…tasted. Cheers to Particle Productions for their 2013 Lovie Bronze win for—fittingly—Best Comedy.

Skype

Skype took home a Gold Lovie in 2011 for the Skype iPad App, and you know what? Sometimes, a song just says it all.
